Located five miles south of Birdsboro, PA on Route 345 and at the center of the Hopewell Big Woods, Hopewell Furnace offers one of the finest physical representations of an iron furnace operation in the United States. This 848-acre site, managed by the National Park Service, features a complete blast furnace complex, living history farm, ironmaster’s mansion, workers’ homes, school house ruins and a church, all interconnected by 5 miles of trails. Various living history demonstrations including sheep shearing, charcoal making, blacksmithing, and cooking are offered seasonally. Ranger led programs including interactive moulding and casting demonstrations and orientation talks are also offered seasonally. Park museum features audio visual programming and artifacts from the past three centuries. Children’s programs offered include a Junior Ranger booklet plus special programming during major events throughout the year.
Public hours: Park Visitor Center, parking lot and historic structures are open 9am – 5pm Wednesday – Sunday mid-October through Memorial Day and 7 days a week Memorial Day through mid- October 9am – 5pm. Park trails and grounds are available dawn to dusk daily. Closed Thanksgiving, December 25th, January 1st, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day.
