Historic Trappe has three historic properties open for tours. Our Center for Pennsylvania German Studies, located in the Dewees Tavern, has five exhibit galleries featuring a wide variety of furniture, fraktur, textiles, and other objects as well as a research library and archives. The Muhlenberg House interprets the families of Lutheran pastor Henry Muhlenberg and his son General Peter Muhlenberg. It is furnished with many original Muhlenberg family heirlooms including furniture, portraits, and silver. The Speaker’s House, home of Frederick Muhlenberg, is an ongoing restoration project and the site of a large Pennsylvania German kitchen garden. Historic Trappe is also the owner of the Muhlenberg parsonage, built in 1745 and currently undergoing architectural investigations in preparation for restoration.
Major events throughout the year include Garden Day, Dinner on Main, Tavern Night, and Candlelight Tours. We also hold a weekly farm stand on Saturdays during the summer and an archaeology field school.
The museums are open for guided tours on Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm and Sundays from 12 to 4 pm; anytime by appointment. All tours start at the Dewees Tavern.
